At the Milford Readers and Writers Festival in Milford, Pennsylvania on Saturday, September 21, 2019, journalist, author and activist Helen Zia, a 1973 Princeton alumna, spoke about her book Last Boat Out of Shanghai: The Epic Story of the Chinese who Fled Mao’s Revolution and how she discovered her mother’s harrowing long hidden past. She was joined by Anne A. Cheng, professor of English and American studies, director of the Program in American Studies and a 1985 Princeton alumna, to discuss little-documented aspects of this tumultuous historical period.
